Hello! My name is James steichen. I'm a film student at Drexel specializing in editing and post-production. However, over my years studying film, I have explored many aspects and areas of the film production industry. I have experience across all aspects of storytelling.

I have always been interested in creating windows into fiction through video and film. Specifically, I'm fascinated by the amount of world-building offered to the creatives behind blockbusters like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. I tried to recreate this when I was younger, I often filmed short stories using iMovie or stop-motion animation with Legos. However, I quickly discovered that I was much more comfortable behind the computer than a camera. I would spend hours editing and trimming the content I created with friends, learning new techniques and software. My goal was to create the best content I could and prove that I wasn’t just a middle schooler with iMovie, despite that being exactly what I was at the time. I definitely lacked a lot of experience, and those videos shall never see the light of day again. However, I am grateful for them as it was the foundation of my love for editing, and I couldn’t break away. 

Eventually, I got my hands on programs like Final Cut, Adobe Premiere Pro, and now Avid. Those opened a new window for me; I had a lot more freedom to create, but there were a lot more buttons to learn. Luckily, I had no issue sitting behind a computer putting clips together and pressing buttons until I got the result I wanted, albeit a frighting amount of time later. The feeling when it all just works, and you want to watch the final product over and over again is unlike anything else to me. However, I have met some people who call me crazy for that.
